چکیده

Diets rich in fruit and vegetables are associated with a decreased incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) due, part, to the bioactive (poly)phenolic components their microbiota-mediated metabolites. This study investigated how such compounds, derived from ingested raspberries gastrointestinal tract, may exert protective effects by reducing DNA damage. Ileal fluids collected pre- post-consumption 300 g ileostomists (n = 11) were subjected 24 h ex vivo fermentation fecal inoculum simulate interaction colonic microbiota. The impact on (poly)phenolics ileal fluid was determined bioactivity post investigated. (Poly)phenolic compounds including sanguiin H-6, H-10 cyanidin-3-O-sophoroside significantly during while, contrast, microbial catabolites, 3-(3?-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid, 3-hydroxybenzoic acid benzoic increased significantly. post-raspberry fermentate 9 11 ileostomates damage (~30%) CCD 841 CoN normal cell line using an oxidative challenge COMET assay. raspberry fermentates also modulated gene expression nuclear factor 2–antioxidant responsive element (Nrf2-ARE) pathway involved stress cytoprotection, namely Nrf2, NAD(P)H dehydrogenase, quinone-1 heme oxygenase-1. Four phenolic catabolites assessed individually, each over physiologically relevant 10–100 ?M range. They induced differential pattern key genes Nrf2-ARE cells. indicates that colon-available (poly)phenols microbial-derived play role protection against CRC vivo.

Ex Vivo Culture of Primary Human Fallopian Tube Epithelial Cells

Epithelial ovarian cancer is a leading cause of female cancer mortality in the United States. In contrast to other women-specific cancers, like breast and uterine carcinomas, where death rates have fallen in recent years, ovarian cancer cure rates have remained relatively unchanged over the past two decades (1). This is largely due to the lack of appropriate screening tools for detection of ear...

Ciliary Beating Recovery in Deficient Human Airway Epithelial Cells after Lentivirus Ex Vivo Gene Therapy

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia is a heterogeneous genetic disease that is characterized by cilia dysfunction of the epithelial cells lining the respiratory tracts, resulting in recurrent respiratory tract infections. Despite lifelong physiological therapy and antibiotics, the lungs of affected patients are progressively destroyed, leading to respiratory insufficiency. Recessive mutations in Dynein ...

Fecal diglycerides as selective endogenous mitogens for premalignant and malignant human colonic epithelial cells.

Diglycerides (DGs) have been found in fecal extracts at concentrations which induce mitogenesis of adenoma and some carcinoma cells but not normal cells in primary culture. DGs containing stearic, oleic, palmitic, and myristic acid side chains were found in fecal extracts from each of eight subjects. Synthetic 1,2-DGs, containing the fatty acids found in endogenous fecal DGs, induced mitogenesi...

on translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...

Uptake and distribution of carotenoids, retinol, and tocopherols in human colonic epithelial cells in vivo.

Studies suggest that micronutrients such as the tocopherols, retinol, and the carotenoids have a chemopreventive action against colonic carcinogenesis and that they may be essential for the functioning and structural integrity of the gastrointestinal epithelium. In this study, we have determined the concentrations of tocopherols, retinol, and the carotenoids in human colonic epithelial cells us...
